Case Study – Workplace Violence

The VP of Human Resources at a major U.S. corporation alerted AISC that an employee at a subsidiary believed she was in imminent physical harm from her supervisor and feared for her life.

Working closely with AISC personnel, the Client implemented the crisis management procedures that AISC had developed. The employee was immediately flown to corporate headquarters, in order to remove her from any immediate danger and to meet with a company psychologist. At the employee's request, she was provided personal protective services upon her return home.

The Client quickly implemented a program in unison with AISC personnel to determine the extent of the threat. AISC investigators quickly determined that the threat of bodily harm was real, though the threat of death unlikely. Ultimately, the Client’s personal security detail and AISC discovered that the employee and her supervisor were heavily involved with illegal drugs. The Client eventually terminated both employees.

Outcome

By quickly implementing the proper crisis management procedures, the Client averted a potential disaster. The repercussions from inaction could have included physical assault and the liability and adverse media scrutiny that may have resulted.
