Case
Study Workplace Violence
The
VP of Human Resources at a major U.S. corporation alerted AISC that an employee
at a subsidiary believed she was in imminent physical harm from her supervisor
and feared for her life.
Working
closely with AISC personnel, the Client implemented the crisis management procedures
that AISC had developed. The employee was immediately flown to corporate headquarters,
in order to remove her from any immediate danger and to meet with a company psychologist.
At the employee's request, she was provided personal protective services upon
her return home.
The
Client quickly implemented a program in unison with AISC personnel to determine
the extent of the threat. AISC investigators quickly determined that the threat
of bodily harm was real, though the threat of death unlikely. Ultimately, the
Clients personal security detail and AISC discovered that the employee
and her supervisor were heavily involved with illegal drugs. The Client eventually
terminated both employees.
Outcome
By
quickly implementing the proper crisis management procedures, the Client averted
a potential disaster. The repercussions from inaction could have included physical
assault and the liability and adverse media scrutiny that may have resulted.
