Case Study – Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

Following the 1993 World Trade Center bombing AISC conducted a vulnerability assessment for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The Port Authority's entire network of transportation infrastructure and real estate holdings, including its airports, tunnels, bridges, subway systems, telecommunications and port facilities were analyzed.

The result was the largest and most comprehensive security survey ever conducted in the private sector. AISC utilized its vulnerability assessment protocols and counter-terrorism expertise to prioritize Port Authority vulnerabilities and establish effective counter-measures.

Outcome

Framing its assessment from the perspective of the terrorist mindset, AISC's first step was a review of all public documents that were potentially available to the public and terrorists.

In this initial phase of its comprehensive vulnerability assessment, AISC determined that access to public documents revealed numerous vulnerabilities within the Port Authority’s transportation network that could be attacked with relative ease.

AISC quickly alerted the Port Authority to these potential vulnerabilities, many which required limited resources and time to rectify.
